Benefits of PMI Membership

Even if you do not plan to sit for the Project Management Professional (PMP) exam, I highly recommend a membership to the Project Management Institute (PMI). It is the world’s leading not-for-profit professional membership association for the project, program and portfolio management profession.

The knowledge you can obtain from the materials on the site and in-person events are applicable to all professions. It’s about organization, processes, controls and management. Everyone from students, to house-wives to CEOS are required to use these skills to some degree.

I especially like the template library.  As a person who’s often asked to take on projects of various focus, having a template to reference from a PMO source saves a lot of time.

Project Working Group Information Pack Presentation (NEW THIS MONTH!)

This presentation is used to discuss the project progress with an extended project team, called the Project Working Group. The PWG is composed of the core project team members (business analyst, lead developer, architect), business subject matter experts and important stakeholders. This report focuses on governance aspects like roles and responsibilities, task allocation, visibility on current and near-future work, and management of risks and issues that can be solved by the PWG.
PMO Status Report (NEW THIS MONTH!)

The PMO Status Report is a weekly report in Excel format submitted to the PMO, portfolio or program manager. The purpose of this report is to provide a summary that will be aggregated at the program or portfolio level. This report focuses on financials, risks and issues that should be escalated at the program/portfolio level.

On any project, risks can have a huge impact on the success or failure of the project. The risk identification form allows anyone working on a project to identify a risk on a project and document the potential impact it may have should it occur.
