I Smile Back

I smile back cff2015

The film, I Smile Back, offered an unflinching look into the world of mental illness and self-medicating driven addiction.  In this film, Sarah Silverman plays a housewife driven to distress by her desire to be the perfect wife and mother.  So much so, that she stops taking her antidepressant medication (a sign of her imperfection) and instead begins taking pills and other narcotics. Her drug use leads to a spiral of destructive behavior that has disastrous results.

This film reminded me that sometimes the pursuit of perfection can actually lead to more scars and letting anxiety overwhelm you can lead you to the end you fear the most.
