About this Blog

I’m Sherry Clayton and thanks for visiting my blog.  I am a strong believer in putting ideas into action and becomming a better citizen through invidiual accountability, collective action, self-awareness and growth.

This site is primarily dedicated to articles and interviews on leadership, networking, professional developmet and mentoring. I expect that it will continue to evolve as I delve deeper into my interest and those of other people I interview.

People are intriguing. Especially their personal histories, talents and aspirations.  I post articles on various topics but the interview series is my favorite.  Ultimately, I would like to post an interview every week.  Tune back next week to see who will be featured.

I post every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and sometimes on Friday.  See the most recent posts.

The executive interview series was started as a result of articles I was creating for the Professional Development committee within YWCA Chicago Associate’s Board.  My goal is to share the lessons learned, guidance and insights from business, social and philanthropic leaders.  The focus of each interview will be geared towards the essence of that persons power:  leadership, mentoring, sales, personal branding, community organizing, etc.   I hope you enjoy the series.  Feel free to recommend others for interviews.  Read my current interviews.

When I think of my own professional brand, leadership is a key component.  Not only by putting ideas into action, but providing leadership to mentees, guidance to my peers and recommendations to leaders.   I will share lessons from my own personal experience in addition to insights gained from others.

I aim to be a master connector.  That’s only possible if I become a stellar networker.  This portion of my blog will share my own networking experiences and advice received from mentors and experts.

Mentoring is such a subjective area.  Probably because it’s so personal.  I will share my own on-going search for a well-rounded group of mentors.  My mis-steps and corrections, successes and plans.

  1. Hi Arthur. It’s great to hear from you. It’s been a few years since we first met in Borders in Michigan avenue. It’s closed now. So sad. Let’s connect this week, if you can. I’ll give you a call.

  2. Sounds good! Hopefully you’d find some time for rest too! 🙂

  3. Hello! I have nominated you for The Very Inspiring Blogger Award. Please follow the link below for the rules http://leazengage.wordpress.com/2013/01/15/very-inspiring-blogger-award/ All the best to you!

    • Hi.

thank you so much for the nomination. I have been so exhausted from work that it will most likely not get to the recognition process until this weekend. Thanks again and I look forward to our future connections.

      Have a wonderful weekend.

  4. Big YES to “putting ideas into action”. I’m happy to have found your blog.

    • Thank you. Do you have a blog as well?

      • Yes, thanks for asking. I noticed that you said you are new to blogging. So am I. Just been at it for a week or so. But, it FITS in so well with my goals that I am completely committed now! While studying about blogging, I learned that I’d be more successful if I actually had 3 blogs. So, that’s what I have. 1 = my personal blog (www.leazengage.wordpress.com) 2 = my fitness blog (www.fitnessbeyondexpectations.wordpress.com) and 3 = my social justice blog (www.sharingjusticeworks.wordpress.com) I’d love to have you visit! Cheers!

      • Wow. You are very intentional! I will definitely visit your blogs. I’m starting to suspect that I at least need a separate blog for the cultural items that I cover. Initially I thought it fit because I included culture and adventure as part of personal growth. What do you think?

      • I definately am not a blogging expert but I can share my thinking! I think that people with a specific interest might not take your site very serious if the content is mixed in with things they don’t really relate to. But I wanted my me-blog to connect to my two topic specific blogs since it’s all me… So I put 2 pages with links to the other blogs in the personal blog. I’d love to hear your thoughts. Good luck!

      • Thanks. You have given me a lot to think about.

      • Let me know how it goes. Thanks 🙂

  5. Looks like a great blog to follow.

  6. Sherry, thanks so much for visiting my site and deciding to follow along. I *love* the baby Superman affirmation below—and there’s no “sometimes” about it!

  7. Sherry, I enjoyed checking out your blog. Keep up the great work!

I woud like to hear from you
